Bank Robbery Reported Inside Stop & Shop, Suspect Caught Quickly: East Haven Police

The suspect did not display a weapon but implied a threat by stating, "I don't want you to get hurt," police said.

EAST HAVEN, CT — Police said they quickly apprehended a suspect in a bank robbery on Friday.

On June 13, 2025, at 3:23 p.m., officers responded to M&T Bank, located inside Stop & Shop, 370 Hemingway Avenue, for a report of a bank robbery in progress, police said.

The suspect had fled the scene and no injuries were reported. According to bank staff, the suspect, described as a man wearing a blue surgical mask and black winter hat, approached a teller and passed a handwritten note demanding cash, police said. The suspect did not display a weapon but implied a threat by stating, “I don’t want you to get hurt,” police said.

Det. Jon Trinh broadcasted a suspect description to surrounding units, and minutes later, Officer James Hoye located a man matching the description walking northbound on High Street, police said. The individual, later identified as Kevin Curran, 52, of New Haven, was found in possession of a bag containing clothing and items matching the suspect’s description, along with cash, a handwritten robbery note, and several knives, police said.

A positive on-scene identification was made, and Curran was taken into custody without incident, police said. He was charged with:

Curran is being held on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court, on June 25, 2025.

"This incident was resolved swiftly thanks to the vigilance of responding officers, clear communication immediately following the incident, and quick investigative work that led to the suspect’s immediate apprehension," said Police Capt. Joseph M. Murgo.
