Clean-Up of Farm River Underway

East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr., has directed that the town's Public Service Department continue the annual removal of debris from the river.

A message from the East Haven Mayor's office:

As directed by Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr., The Town of East Haven’s Public Service Department is continuing the annual clean-up of the Farm River. As was the case during Maturo’s previous terms in office, Mayor Maturo has made it a priority of his administration to clean and maintain the banks and riverbed of the Farm River to ensure the proper flow of water in case of major storm events throughout the year. Prior to last year, this work was not performed during the previous four years.

“Our extensive and aggressive clean-up work along the river banks, during my previous ten years in office, had a direct effect of minimizing and preventing the serious flooding issues that our residents living in these vulnerable areas had to endure for way too long previously., Maturo stated. With the apparent changes in our weather patterns, that have increased the frequency and severity of tropical systems possibly affecting our area, the work along the Farm River becomes more important than ever. We will continue our diligence to be proactive and work to minimize the threat to our residents and their properties in these areas”, concluded the Mayor.

The Public Service Department is presently working in the area of Corbin Rd., just east of Mill St., where a large tree was discovered wedged under the bridge.  The tree, along with approximately 100 cubic yards of silt and sand will be removed in the coming weeks.  Several other sites are slated for clean-up.
