Democratic Chair Calls Out GOP Chair On Maturo Sex Harass Flap

Democratic Chair in East Haven says if GOP Chair won't call on Maturo to step down that the Republican Chair should quit himself.

EAST HAVEN, CT - East Haven Democratic Town Chairman Marc Conte has already called on Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr. to resign in the wake of Maturo settling a sexual harassment suit against a former employee that will cost the town $175,000.

Now Conte is calling out Republican Town Chairman Robert Parente, stating Parente should also be asking for Maturo’s resignation.

Here is Conte’s statement:

"He (Parente) needs to do this," said Conte, referring to taking a stand on Maturo’s sexual harassment settlement against former town employee Francine Carbone.

"It's wrong and the fact that the Chairman is employed by the Town in a job Maturo appointed him to should not prevent him from answering the resident wishes,” he said.

According to Conte, there was a Republican Town Committee meeting Monday night and there was no discussion about Maturo's removal.

"My Republican source said there were screaming matches regarding Ms. Carbone's payment but that's where it ended,” he said.

“In the meantime, the internet petition started by an East Haven resident has been picking up steam daily,” Conte said.

“The count is rising of those accused, and the writing is on the wall with this petition. The average taxpayer is really upset by this whole episode,” Conte said.

He further added: “If Parente (also a candidate for State Rep in East Haven) doesn't have the ability to take a stand and ask for Maturo to resign, then he should consider resigning as well for the best interest of his own party.”

In addition Conte said he: “would like to encourage the RTC to keep an open mind and consider working with the DTC on this issue for the best interests of the residents.”
