Auto Body Employee In East Haven Stole $300K Tractor-Trailer, It Ended Up Torched On Highway: Police

The accused was released after posting a $150,000 bond, Berlin police said.

BERLIN, CT — A Milford man is accused of stealing a tractor tailer valued at $300,000 from a business, and it was later found torched on Interstate 91 in North Haven, Berlin police said.

On March 31, a brand new $300,000 tractor trailer was stolen from the lot of Peterbilt Trucking, which was later found torched on I-91 in North Haven after numerous parts were removed from the vehicle, police said.

Berlin police began an investigation which developed a suspect and ultimately led to a search warrant being executed at the New Haven Truck & Auto Body in East Haven, where a refurbished tractor trailer fitted with numerous stolen parts was located and seized, police said.

On July 31, Jason Dennis, 45, who is a New Haven Truck & Auto Body employee, was charged on a warrant with first-degree larceny, third-degree burglary, and first-degree criminal trover.

He posted a $150,000 bond and is due in court on Aug. 14.
