East Haven Mayor Visits Local Barbershop Amid Reopening Efforts
Michael Anthony's Barber Shop in East Haven has reopened after shuttering for around three months during the coronavirus pandemic.

EAST HAVEN, CT — East Haven Mayor Joseph Carfora on Wednesday showed out to support a local business amid reopening efforts in Connecticut.
Carfora stopped in at Michael Anthony's Barber Shop in East Haven "to check in and see how things were going for Mike Thompson and [his] staff," the mayor's office said in a statement.
Carfora said he supports businesses reopening in the area and trusts that it can be done safely.

“It was nice to see a local business up and running again after being shut down due to COVID-19. With safety protocols and policies put in place, I’m assured local businesses can reopen safely for the business and its customers," Carfora said in a statement.
The barbershop is owned by Michael Thompson. He told Patch he opened the business when he was 19-years-old, and has kept it running in East Haven for 17 years.

"I don't take any sick days," he said. "I've been open 17 years now. [The closure] was a nice little breather."
Thompson said he redesigned his whole barbershop to allow for social distance before reopening. Now, his focus is on fixing "overgrown heads" and "those at-home [haircut] jobs."
Michael Anthony's Barber Shop is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The best way to book an appointment is by calling 203-466-CUTS (2887), Thompson said.
