East Haven Rotary Seeks Nominations for Public Safety Awards

Nominations must be submitted by May 17 for the Joseph Buonome Memorial Public Safety Awards in East Haven.

The Rotary Club of East Haven, celebrating its 77th year of community service, now has forms available to nominate this year’s recipients of the club’s annual Joseph Buonome Memorial Public Safety Awards. The Rotary Club renamed the awards in memory of former well respected citizen and Rotarian Joseph Buonome, who passed away in February of 2013.

As is customary, the awards to members of the Town’s Police and Fire Departments will be presented at the Rotary’s annual Installation of Officers Dinner, which will be at the Country House Restaurant in East Haven on June 30th.

Forms may be obtained in Town Hall at Mayor Maturo’s office or the Town Clerk’s office and also at Police and Fire Headquarters located on North High Street and Main Street respectively. A PDF version of the form is available here. The deadline for nominations to be submitted is May 17th.

The club now in its 77th year was organized on March 3, 1939 and held its first meeting and was admitted to membership in Rotary International on March 13th of the same year. Since that time the club has remained dedicated and committed to improving the community and citizens of East Haven. Through its annual scholarship program and Student of the Month, the club recognizes and encourages achievement of high school students. Amber Alert Identification cards, Clothe the Children, free Thanksgiving dinners are some of its other volunteer activities.
