East Haven Teachers Make The Grade, Receive Top Honors

Three East Haven teachers named teacher of the year.

EAST HAVEN--The school district is celebrating three outstanding teachers, naming the three educators Teachers of the Year in East Haven.

According to The East Haven Courier, teachers Allison Santoro, Gladys Knudsen and Jordan Imperati were honored in a May 27 ceremony.

For the second year in a row, the district took part in the awards program.

Santoro, who has been a teacher in the district for the last nine years, is currently the first grade teacher at Deer Run, according to the report.

She told The East Haven Courier:

“I am honored to have been recognized for my hard work and dedication to both the students and the School District of East Haven,” said Santoro. “I am humbled because I work with so many outstanding and deserving educators here in East Haven that inspire their students each day.”

Imperati has held various jobs and positions with the East Haven district. Currently she's been the special education teacher at Melillo Middle School for the last five years.

Her prior positions include case manager for sixth grade special education, working on the Crisis Team and the Extended Year program, The Courier reports.

Knudsen is a 31-year veteran teacher at East Haven High School and she's taught at the East Haven Adult Learning Center for 25 years, The Courier reports.

Knudsen told the paper:

“As an individual who prefers to encourage students from where they are to where they can go, this recognition is simply an acknowledgment that what I have been striving to accomplish has been recognized.”
