East Haven Woman Left Dog Tied To A Post With No Food Or Water, Southbury Police Say

SOUTHBURY, CT — An East Haven woman is accused of abandoning a dog in a parking lot in Southbury, police said.

On Saturday, February 22, Southbury Animal Control took a report that a dog had been abandoned in the parking lot at Bennett Square, police said. The dog was tied to a post and left with no food, water, or shelter, police said.

In need of veterinary care, the dog was transported to a local animal hospital where he was treated and later returned to the Southbury Animal Control Shelter, police said.

Southbury Animal Control Officer Cedor identified the suspect’s vehicle and turned the case over to the Southbury Police Department for further investigation, police said. Officer Rywolt identified a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant for 21-year-old, Jamese Williams from East Haven, police said.

On Aug. 6, Williams was located in Milford and taken into police custody, police said. Williams was placed under arrest, processed, and released on a $5,000 bond, police said. Williams was charged with animal cruelty and tethering a dog to an object.

"The dog, “Reggie”, was later adopted by Southbury Police Detective Critelli, who has provided him with a loving home and has brought him back to good health," police said in a news release.
