GOP Chair: Democratic Chairman is “Hypocrite” over Maturo Flap

Accusations are flying fast and furious between both parties in East Haven in the wake of sexual harassment suit against Joe Maturo.

EAST HAVEN, CT - Republican Town Chairman and 99th District House Candidate Robert Parente didn’t respond well to Democratic Chairman Marc Conte saying he should be calling on Mayor Joe Maturo Jr. to step down in the wake of a sexual harassment suit against Maturo by an ex employee being settled for $175,000.

Parente said this about Conte’s call for Parente to take a stand against Maturo.

“Mr. Conte should be calling on his own candidate James Albis before calling on me.

“Mr. Conte is a hypocrite and he is afraid to call out James Albis, who knows the Mayor still enjoys broad support because of his exceptional fiscal policies in East Haven.

“Mr. Conte should worry about his own party and not me. I’m focused on bringing a real voice to Hartford and standing up for lowering taxes and revitalizing our State so people in our Town can afford to raise their families and retire in our great town of East Haven,” said Parente, who is trying to unseat Albis in the 99th district.

Albis hasn’t called for Maturo to step down but he has said that the mayor should “look hard” about his future in the wake of the sexual harassment settlement that will cost the town $175,000 to be paid to former employee Francine Carbone in addition to medical benefits to be paid to her and her husband for the rest of her life.
