Police K-9 Helps Make Heroin Drug Bust: East Haven Police

EAST HAVEN, CT — With the assistance of police dog “Ace,” East Haven Police made a major drug bust this week, charging a local man with possession and intent to sell heroin, police announced Saturday.

On Wednesday, Officer Donato Palma saw a gray Chevrolet Malibu traveling southbound on High Street with Maine license plates that belonged on a different vehicle, police said. Palma stopped the car in the area of High Street and Messina Drive, but Michael Carrera, 41, did not immediately stop, police said.

Police said when they stopped Carrera they saw an orange prescription pill container, which had a white powdery residue inside it, and once Carrera exited the car, police said suspected crack cocaine was spotted on the driver’s seat in plain view.

At that point, Carrara was detained as officers searched the rest of the vehicle, police said. Officer Kevin McGuire and his K-9 partner "Ace" assisted and "Ace" alerted to the back seat compartment of the vehicle where three Heroin wax folds were located, police said.

Sergeant Justin Brochu, who also responded to the scene, located an additional (34) packets of Heroin stamped “Lamborghini” which was concealed in a protein shaker bottle with a false bottom, police said. The Heroin was packaged for re-sale in four separate bundles, police said. The suspected heroin had a total weight of approximately 12.6 grams, police said.

Carrera, of Tuttle Place, is charged with two counts of possession of controlled substance, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, and possession of drug paraphernalia in violation.

Carrera was released on a $10,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 11.
