Obituary: Joseph F. “Joe” Maciejak, 79, of East Haven

An Army National Guard​ member, he was known for his kindness, generosity, genuineness and leaves a legacy of love, compassion and devotion.

Joseph F. “Joe” Maciejak, 79, of East Haven, beloved husband of 56 years to Linda Geremia Maciejak, passed away on April 13, 2024 surrounded by his family at his home. Loving father of Donna (Alphonse) Suppa and Lisa Maciejak all of Branford. Grandfather of Victoria and Alphonse Suppa Jr. Brother of Frances Maciejak of Hamden. Brother-in-law of Vincent “Jimmy” and Maryann Cillo and close friend of Ralph “Butch” and Dale Mannochi. Joe was born in New Haven on November 6, 1944 son of the late Lawrence and Adele Slusarski Maciejak.

Prior to his retirement, Joe was a proud member of Local 478 and crane operator for the former Schiavone & Sons, now known as Metal Management. The Maciejak family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Jonathan Ortiz, Karolina Nadrak and Maria Rodriguez for their exceptional care and compassion in tending to Joe in his home. Their unwavering dedication and kindness brought comfort and peace during his final days.

The family would also like to thank the Yale New Haven Hospital Adult Emergency Department nurses, physicians and staff for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Joe during his illness.

Joe was a true family man, whose love and devotion knew no bounds. His daughters and grandchildren were the center of his world, and he took immense joy in every moment spent with them. His face would light up with pride and love whenever he spoke of his family, and his warmth and kindness touched the hearts of all who knew him.

Beyond his role as a loving father and grandfather, he was the strength and support for his wife, Linda, who battles dementia. He cared tirelessly for her, demonstrating unwavering patience, compassion, and dedication throughout her illness. His selfless commitment to her was a testament to the depth of his character.

Joe was known for his kindness, generosity and genuine nature. He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and devotion that will continue to inspire and guide us. Joe served his country faithfully in the Army National Guard.

His funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80), East Haven FRIDAY morning at 10:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at St. Vincent de Paul Church at 11:00. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery. Family and friends may call THURSDAY from 4pm to 7pm. Memorial contributions may be made to CT Hospice at www.hospice.com.
