Residents Realize Prescription Savings With Town-Sponsored Discount Card

Prescription discount cards, available to all residents of East Haven, were mailed in January. Did you receive yours and are you using it?

A message from the East Haven Mayor's office:

Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr. is pleased to report that for the first six months of the Town’s Prescription Drug Discount Card Program, the number of participants continues to grow with an average dollar savings of almost 60%.

Back in January, The Town of East Haven, through its association with the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM), the statewide association of towns and cities, began providing each resident a new prescription discount card that offers uninsured and underinsured residents steep savings on prescription medicines.

In Connecticut, over 10 percent of Connecticut residents – nearly 360,000 people – currently lack health insurance and prescription plans and another 800,000 residents are underinsured.

The “Town of East Haven Prescription Drug Discount Card” helps residents save money on their prescription medications any time their prescription is not covered by insurance.  This new prescription discount card will provide immediate fiscal relief at the pharmacy counter for uninsured and underinsured residents and offers the following features and benefits:

  • Anyone can participate regardless of age or income
  • All prescription medications are covered including pet prescriptions that can be filled at a pharmacy
  • There is no cost to the municipality or to participating residents
  • There are over 63,000 participating pharmacies nationwide, including most of the major retailers and many independent pharmacies
  • Discounts are also offered on other medical services including vision, hearing and Lasik services.

“I am particularly pleased that our residents are taking advantage of this great program, especially during these most difficult economic times. A 60% savings on these prescriptions can certainly make the difference for many of our uninsured or underinsured residents, who without the card, might have to choose between medicine or food for themselves and their families," said Maturo. "While this program is especially critical for our uninsured or underinsured citizens, it may be used by any resident whenever they have a prescription that is not covered by their current medical plan. Unfortunately with the current number of unemployed, many people today are without medical coverage for the first time. This is a great solution to a pressing issue that will positively impact residents in need across East Haven.”
