Senior Center Open Late as Cooling Center
The air-conditioning is on and working hard at the East Haven Senior Center. If you need to cool down, come on down to Taylor Avenue. Bring a snack, some bottled water and a book or magazine!

This week is a hot one, for sure, and when the temperatures reach the 90s or above, all residents need to take caution, especially children and seniors.
It's so hot that the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory. According to the NWS, "A heat advisory is issued if the heat index values reach 100 to 104 degrees. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency so please call 911."
Due to the hot weather, East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr. has announced that the East Haven Senior Center on Taylor Avenue will remain open to residents until 6 pm each day for use as the town’s “Cooling Center” until the current heat wave is broken.
The center is usually open from 7:30am to 3pm.
Residents who intend to use the center are advised to bring their own snacks and bottled water, as these items will not be provided.
The Senior Center is located at 91 Taylor Avenue in East Haven. Phone number is 203-468-3277 if you have questions.
