Shuttered For Weeks, Library Programs Continue, But Spaces Are Needed
Library director makes plea to businesses for "meeting rooms, dining areas, anywhere we can host a program for kids, teens, or adults."

EAST HAVEN, CT — It's been more than six weeks since a burst pipe shuttered what director Sarah Mallory describes as a "vital part of East Haven," the Hagaman Memorial Library.
Since, while the building is closed indefinitely as repairs are made, myriad library programs continue in various locations across town. But more locales are needed.
In a letter to Chamber of Commerce members and other East Haven business owners posted to Facebook, Mallory, who said the library "team is committed to continuing free programs and services all summer long," asked for donations, in the form of space — "meeting rooms, dining areas, anywhere we can host a program for kids, teens, or adults."

"We’re looking for local businesses willing to donate space," Mallory wrote. "Morning, afternoon, or evening—our calendar is full, and we’d love to bring some of that energy to your space. If you’re able to provide light refreshments, that’s wonderful, but not required. Most importantly, we need space."
And in return for the use of those spaces, Mallory said the library will "happily thank you in our promotions."

"This has been a tough time, but the kindness of our community has been a bright spot. We're especially grateful to those who have already stepped up to help," she wrote.
