State Rep. Albis Promoted to Deputy Majority Leader

State Rep. James Albis is a fourth-term legislator in East Haven.

From Connecticut General Assembly: State Rep. James Albis (D-East Haven) has been promoted to be a Deputy Majority Leader for the 2017-2019 term by Democratic leaders, Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz (D-Berlin) and Majority Leader Matthew Ritter (D-Hartford.) As Deputy Majority Leader, Rep. Albis will serve as chairman of the Majority Leader’s Screening Committee, which is responsible for aiding the Majority Leader with the review and development of policy, the analysis of critical legislation, and coordinating the flow of legislation on the House floor. Rep. Albis will work closely with the Speaker of the House and Majority Leader to rally support to pass critical legislation.

“I want to thank Speaker Joe Aresimowicz and Majority Leader Matt Ritter for this important opportunity as I am proud to serve East Haven and our state in this leadership capacity,” Rep. Albis said. “I look forward to playing an active role in coordinating house matters in a bipartisan manner and am eager to move legislation forward for a better Connecticut.”

Albis is a hardworking and intelligent leader within our caucus, and I am thrilled he has been named a Deputy Majority Leader.” said Speaker Aresimowicz. “James will play a vital role in ensuring that we move legislation forward in a timely and judicious manner, and I look forward to working with him in his new leadership capacity.”

Albis will thrive in his role as Deputy Majority Leader and I am proud to have him on my team,” Majority Leader Matt Ritter said. “He’s an excellent leader in the House chamber and I am confident in his ability to work across the aisle to help improve the quality of life for residents in Connecticut, while at the same time represent the interests of the families of East Haven.”

In addition to his leadership role, Rep. Albis will serve on the Transportation Committee and the Insurance and Real Estate Committee. He will continue to serve on the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee as he did in his previous terms.
