UPDATE: Woman Seen Dumping Dog Identified, Will Face Charges: Official

East Haven Animal Shelter staff have the dog, but location was actually in New Haven, so its Animal Control "will go forward with charges."

EAST HAVEN, CT —East Haven Animal Control Officer Emily Higgins confirmed for Patch that the woman seen on video dumping a young, frightened dog on a street along the East Haven New Haven border was actually in New Haven. So, its Animal Control Officers "will go forward with charges," Higgins said. The woman was identified, Higgins said, as officials had the license plate number of the vehicle she was in.

"We just can't understand why you would dump such a sweet little girl like her," East Haven Animal Control said about the abandonment of a dog this weekend.

It was just before 8 a.m. on Saturday, when a four-door SUV pulls up on a street on the East Haven and New Haven town line, and a woman opens the passenger side door. She gets out, appears to looks around, then unleashes a dog, who frantically runs in circles the street. The woman gets back in the car, and it drives away, the frightened dog appears to try to follow.

In a post to its Facebook page, the East Haven Animal Shelter shared video of the abandonment in the hopes of identifying the woman.

"If you know the woman in this video please let her know that her sweet little girl is safe with us," the post reads. "We just can't understand why you would dump such a sweet little girl like her."

Animal Control officials, under the auspices of the East Haven Police Department, "have license plate information," it's noted.

The dog abandonment is under investigation.
