EAST HAVEN, CT - State Rep. Joe Zullo sent a letter yesterday to East Haven Superintendent Erica Forti looking to team up and begin regular meetings with the Superintendent, administrators, teachers, and staff to discuss emerging education trends and legislative initiatives that will benefit both teachers and students.

In his letter, Zullo explained, "I am inviting you to join me in scheduling a regular, monthly "Legislative-Education Alliance Discussion" (LEAD). I believe that by carving out time each month to learn more about emerging education trends, I will be better equipped to propose and evaluate education legislation at the Capitol."

Zullo continued, "I also believe that our discussions will better educate me about the needs of our district, which will make me more effective advocate for our district and our children in Hartford."

"Residents expect me to be listening, learning, and respecting their concerns," said Zullo. "The people of East Haven sent me to Hartford to be an advocate for our community. I believe that by fostering relationships with our educators, who best understand the needs and challenges within our district, we will come up with some great ideas to better our district, our community, and maybe even our State."

According to Zullo, there has never been an initiative like "LEAD" in East Haven, which Zullo feels will help the Superintendent and school district to better take advantage of educational initiatives it may not currently be aware of it.

In his letter, Zullo explained, “Each year, the legislature passes hundreds of bills and I would like to be your resource for navigating those bills and understanding how they affect our district."

He concluded, "Increasing educational opportunities for students in East Haven is a priority for me. Having regular dialogue with our Superintendent and our educational leaders is critical to my developing a better understanding if our district and becoming a more effective advocate for our students. I see this initiative as a common-sense measure that, with commitment, will yield great benefits for our district and our students."
