Essex Library: A History of 18th Century Whaling with Mystic Seaport Museum

This program, presented by Essex Library, explores the history of an industry built on the backs of the ocean's greatest creatures; whaling was a cornerstone of nineteenth century life. From oil lamps illuminating the world to revolutionary factories, we will explore the motivations behind this trade.
As stewards of the Charles W Morgan, the last commercial wooden whale ship, Mystic Seaport Museum is in a unique position to bring the experiences of the crew to life. We will dive into the commerce that has left a permanent mark on places such as New Bedford, New London, and Nantucket. Come with us to explore the legacy of Yankee whaling and its impact on our world.
This program is FREE and open to the public at 33 West Avenue, Essex, CT Space is limited, so registration is suggested. Register online HERE or call the Library at 860-767-1560.
