Here are the top five stories in Essex-Chester-Deep River today:
- A Town meeting will be held in Chester on May 24 at 7 p.m. at the Chester Meeting House to vote on the proposed town budget, which was recently approved by the Board of Selectmen. The proposed 2022-2023 $15,329,800 town budget, is up $468,307 from the current year’s budget. Voters will be required to wear masks during the in-person meeting. (Zip06)
- The Connecticut Better Business Bureau (BBB) is warning residents about a scam involving Norton LifeLock Inc. and the CT BBB. The scammers are emailing victims claiming to be from Norton LifeLock Inc. and sending out letters that appeared to be from a Connecticut BBB address and signed by the CEO. The BBB is asking that residents be on high alert and exercise caution if they are suspicious. (HamletHub)
- Connecticut schools will soon be required to teach climate change as a part of the science curriculum. It will be required by state law beginning in July 2023. The state will be implementing the Next Generation Science Standards, which is a national standard that includes teaching on climate change. Through this curriculum, students reportedly will gradually build an understanding of the environment they live in and eventually discuss climate change and solutions. (The Connecticut Mirror)
- Branford-based Stony Creek Brewery and Save the Sound have collaborated to create a new beer that supports the mission of Save the Sound, a regional non-profit. In an effort to give back and preserve what makes Connecticut so special, with every purchase of “Save the Sound Light Lager,” the brewery will donate a portion of the proceeds to Save the Sound.
