Coffeehouse With Unique Mission Will Close Its Doors In Deep River
The owner announced "with a heavy heart" that the café will close after six years in business.
DEEP RIVER, CT — A popular café that offers more than just drinks will close this month.
The owner of The Nest Coffee House in Deep River announced "with a heavy heart" that it will close Aug. 10 after six years in business, a Facebook post reads.
According to the café's website: "The Nest positively impacts the lives of neurodiverse young adults with autism, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and related disorders by nurturing their unique skills, strengths, and preferences."

The Nest is a program through A Little Compassion, a nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the lives of young adults with disabilities.
The café's owner lists The Nest's accomplishments in the farewell post, including "assisting 50 interns in exploring their employment journey; being the catalyst for over 1,000 people attending events fostering inclusion and compassion; serving 64,759 drinks - warming hearts and soothing souls; bringing 42,995 cookies, brownies, crumb cakes and other baked goods to hungry bellies; (and) showing the world what a little compassion can do."

The post received an outpouring of feedback from supporters, including 320 reactions and 88 comments as of Thursday morning.
One commenter wrote: "So sad! One of my favorite places to visit. You all did so much for so many individuals! I received one of your scholarships for neurodiverse individuals and it was so meaningful to me and help me so much on my college journey. Thank you for all you have done."
