The Deep River Fishing Derby With A Catch!
The 37th annual fishing derby will be held at Plattwood Park; rain or shine, May 8th,through Sunday, May 16th.
DEEP RIVER, CT — Deep River Parks and Recreation's Annual Fishing Derby but with a 'Catch'.
The 37th annual fishing derby will be held again at Plattwood Park, Rte. 80, Deep River.
Rain or shine.
Open to all area youth ages 5-15.
Registration: Free
ALL FISHING IS DONE FROM THE SHORE! NO BOATS OR FLOATS OF ANY KIND ARE ALLOWED IN THE WATER
New Rules to an old favorite to keep everyone safe!
We are offering this event to help people get outside but everyone must adhere to the established safety guidelines to help prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
Fishing must be done maintaining social distancing. Face Masks should be worn if social distancing can not be done.
Fishing is only allowed on town property from the designated fishing pond. This pond is located to the left of the park driveway entrance.
New this year-
The derby will run from Saturday, May 8th,through Sunday, May 16th.
Fishing will be allowed during regular park hours only.
All participants must be pre-registered.
All fish must be measured on site and photos of fish with angler must be submitted prior to the end of the derby on Sunday, May 16th @6 pm.
*****We are putting everyone on the honor system! Please take 2 photos for submission. The first picture should be of the angler with the fish. And the second photo needs to show the fish as you measure it so that the measurement can be seen****

Only fish caught during the time of the derby will be counted
Only Rainbow or Brown Trout will be considered towards the prize as that is what the pond is stocked with. The bluegill, a species of freshwater fish sometimes referred to as "bream", 'brim", "sunny", "copper nose", or "perch" are not counted towards the prizes awarded in the derby.
Three prizes will be awarded in each age group. There are three age groups:
Ages 5-7
Ages 8-12
Ages 13-15
A prize will also be awarded for largest catch overall.
In order to be eligible for a prize- All fish entered into the contest must be caught by the registered youth.
***Remember All Rainbow Trout caught during the derby must be measured on site. The photo of each fish being measured making sure that the fish's length can be seen in the picture must be submitted to the P & R email for each fish that you wish entered into the derby. Another photo showing the angler with the fish must also be submitted.
Each registrant may submit up to three fish with photos for consideration.
**Remember-all photos must be submitted to the P & R email along with the name of the registrant prior to the end of the derby on Sunday, May 16th @ 6:00pm in order to be considered for the derby.
Any late entries will not be counted.
Only anglers pre-registered will be considered.

Adults (16 years and up) can not participate in the derby and are required to hold a valid fishing license from the State of Connecticut.
