- The following American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) requests will be brought to the Deep River Town Meeting, which will be held on Monday, March 13 at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall:
- $48,100 from the ARPA funds for Tri-Town Youth Services to be used to expand clinical services and sustain critical youth support groups and mental health promotion efforts. Similar contributions from Chester and Essex are contingent upon approval of said request.
- $10,000 from the ARPA funds for Shoreline Soup Kitchen. SSK has requested
- $10,000 from each of the towns it serves for the purchase of a refrigerated food truck. This truck will provide additional food to needy residents.
- $15,525 from the ARPA funds for Middlesex Center for Behavioral Health to be used to provide continued community behavioral health services to the residents of Deep River.
- $53,000 from the ARPA funds for the Deep River Historical Society to be used to replace the deteriorating and leaking roofs of the Stone House and Carriage House and significantly upgrade the security system for both buildings.
- $137,500 from the ARPA funds for the Deep River Ambulance Association to be used toward the purchase of a new ambulance. The new ambulance will replace the current 2016 Dodge Sprinter. This new ambulance will allow crewmembers to help patients requiring advanced life support and psychiatric patients with greater compartment space and it will also support a hands-free stretcher lift thereby reducing the risk of injury to patients and crewmembers.
- $50,000 from the ARPA funds to supplement the Community Health Committee energy assistance program and the Food Pantry. The rising cost of fuel and food has given rise to the need to supplement the Town’s capacity to provide assistance to needy residents
- $50,000 from the ARPA funds to the Deep River Housing Authority. The funds will be used to create a pilot program to hire part-time home health aides to assist our most vulnerable elderly population with day-to-day care. Residents are encouraged to attend the town meeting for more information. (Town of Deep River)
2. Goodspeed Musicals has announced the season will open with “Gypsy,” a Golden Age classic that will appear on the Goodspeed stage for the first time, which will run from April 28 – June 18. More information can be found at goodspeed.org. (Goodspeed Musicals)
3. Don't forget to mark your calendars for the Region 4 Education Foundation, Inc. special community fundraising 5k running event to be held on March 18. The R4EF Catch a Leprechaun Race will be run in Essex and is being specifically organized to encourage participation for elementary, middle school and high school-age runners/walkers and their families. This road race has replaced the former Jingle Bell Run. Chip timing will done by Rat Race Time on a certified course. The race will kick off at 10 a.m. Packet pick-up will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Essex Town Hall. Sign up at runsignup.com/Race/CT/Essex/CatchALeprechaun5k. (Chester Chat via Facebook)
