Environmental Tip From The Chester Conservation Commission

Help do your part to combat greenhouse gases.

CHESTER, CT β€” Environmental tip from the Chester Conservation Commission: "Do you in Chester want to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere? If so look into moving away from gas-powered lawn care machines and toward electric or battery-operated ones. According to the Washington Post, 44% of the overall lawn care market is electric - a 75% leap in 5 years. The advantages of such a shift are numerous. They are quieter and contribute to lower use of gas and less pollution. Again accordIng to the Post, in 2018 Americans used 3 billion gallons of gas in lawn care equipment which is equal to the energy use of 3 million homes. Also, one hour of using a leaf blower creates as much smog creating pollution as driving a Toyota Camry 1,100 miles. At this time gas-powered machines are less expensive to buy, but as the demand for those powered by other means increases, they will come down in price. So let’s help contribute to that increase in demand!"
