Here are the top four stories today in Essex-Chester-Deep River:
- Congratulation to the town of Essex, which is number four on the list of eight "Small Towns That Feel Like You're in a Hallmark Movie." Highlighted for its charm, riverfront location and its history, Lyndsay Crescenti, travel blogger calls Essex "a quintessential Hallmark-like small town!" According to Crescenti, "you'll still feel like you're stepping back through time. The easily walkable Main Street is lined with beautiful Colonial-style historic homes from the late 1700s and boutique shops and small businesses." She added, "make sure to walk along the river by the Connecticut River Museum and watch sailboats bobbing in the water." Crescenti recommended visiting in either the summer or fall, when the foliage is at its peak. "To complete your Hallmark-inspired experience, you need to stay at The Griswold Inn, one of the oldest continuously operating inns in the country."(Best Life)
- Get your walking shoes and come out to support neurodiversity by being part of a 5K walk which will be held by the non-profit, A Little Compassion (ALC), on October 1. "The Compassion Walk, which begins at Deep River Elementary School at 9 a.m., will be an adaptable route based on individual walker’s stamina, interest and abilities, according to ALC Executive Director Jane Moen in a Zip06 article. “There are two different cutoffs on the route, one that takes off almost a mile and another that takes off another mile. Instead of almost three miles, folks can cut it down to two and a half miles, or to two miles,” said Moen. “We wanted the walk to be fully inclusive and open to everybody and every ability." The event, the first of its kind by ALC, is meant for people from all walks of life, with the hopes of reaching the greatest number of people to support ALC’s mission in supporting and honoring neurodiverse individuals and their integral message of acceptance and inclusion, according to Moen. Registration is available on the website alittlecompassion.org, with participation for children between the ages of 4 to 12 at $15 per person, and $20 for all at age 13 and up. The same amount will be for participation in the virtual walk. All registration fees will be donations towards ALC.(Zip06)
- Got something that you don't want or need any longer and you don't want to throw it away? Why not donate it? "The Essex Art Association is looking for donations for its white elephant sale on Saturday, Oct. 1 and Sunday, Oct. 2 from noon to 4 p.m. Donations to the sale will be accepted on Sunday, Sept. 18 and Monday, Sept. 19 from noon to 4 p.m. and on Thursday, Sept. 29 from 4 to 7 p.m.. Both intake and the sale itself will be at the Essex Art Association gallery at 10 North Main Street in Essex. Ellen Gaube, a board member of the association who is in charge of the sale, says the group needs art, crafts, sculpture, even art books and art supplies," according to Zip06. (Zip06.com)
- On Sunday, September 11, the 8th Annual Deep River Fire Department Automobile Extravaganza will be taking place at Devitt Field from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.. The fee to enter a vehicle is $10 and walk-ins are free. Proceeds benefit the Deep River Fire Department. Hope to see you there!
