Here are the top three stories in Essex-Chester-Deep River today:

  1. It's time for a new Chester Historical Society (CHS) old homes book. The last one, put out in 1984, highlighted 200 of Chester's early houses and buildings. According to a Facebook post from the society, the new book will include houses built up to 1900 (the last edition's stopping point was 1875). If you own an 18th or 19th-century house, the CHS would like to hear from you. Please send e-mail to chestercthistoricalsociety@gmail.com. Include your name and the address of your house. Wouldn't it be great to see you home in the new book collection? " (Chester CT Historical Society via Facebook)
  2. It's that time of year again here in the great state of Connecticut, fair time! Here is a comprehensive list of the upcoming fairs throughout the state, from the Hartford Courant. Mark your calendars for the ones you want to go to. (Hartford Courant)

It was the first of four donated to us by owner Bob Petzold! We try to eat and hold groups outside as much as possible but our old picnic table is rotting, sad, and in desperate need of retirement!
Kind gestures never, ever go unnoticed around here and we are so very grateful." (Tri-Town Youth Services Bureau via Facebook)
  • Town of Essex – Government: "F.I.S.H IS BACK!!! F.I.S.H (Friends In Service Here) is a group of men and women volunteer drivers who will provide free transportation to medical appointments to residents of Chester, Deep River and Essex. " (Town of Essex – Government via Facebook)
  • Essex Fire Engine Co. #1: "Swimming Safety Tips - part 2: Take smart precautions: 1. Stay within an arm's reach of any weak or inexperienced swimmer who is in the water. 2. Have young children or inexperienced swimmers wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets around water, but do not rely on life jackets alone. 3. Do not rely on the use of water wings, swim rings, inflatable toys or other items designed for water recreation to replace adult supervision. 4. If you have a pool, secure it with appropriate barriers to prevent unsupervised access to the water. 5. Many children who drown in home pools did so during non-swim times – when they weren’t expected to be in the water, including as the swimming activity was coming to an end and everyone was thought to be out of the water. 6. Children were often out of sight for less than 5 minutes and in the care of one or both parents at the time." (Essex Fire Engine Co. #1 via Facebook)
  • Deep River Public Library: "We still have some spots available for Jedi training! Padawans will learn how to handle lightsabers and put their knowledge to the test. You never know when a Sith Lord might show up!" (Deep River Public Library via Facebook)
  • Tri-Town Youth Services Bureau: "Where are there mentorship opportunities? Find out by clicking the link! - https://mailchi.mp/ttysb/gt7pycu4ed-9279145" (Tri-Town Youth Services Bureau via Facebook)
