ESSEX, CHESTER, DEEP RIVER, CT — It's 2021's biggest and brightest supermoon, the Super Flower Blood Moon will appear this week in Connecticut.
According to a recent article written by Patch staff member Rich Kirby, the grand finale in the trifecta of supermoons is the May supermoon, which will appear to be bigger and brighter than the two preceding it. The total lunar eclipse will happen Tuesday and Wednesday, May 25-26.
The May full moon is also known as the flower moon for fairly obvious reasons — because it's the month when blooms pop.

The likelihood of seeing the supermoon or the blood moon, of course, hinges on clear or mostly clear skies. The National Weather Service is forecasting partly cloudy skies over Hartford overnight Tuesday and Wednesday.
However, according to Kirby's article, in Connecticut, we won't get to see the full sky show, as the moon will be below the horizon for most of the eclipse. At 4:47 a.m. on Wednesday, the Earth's penumbra will start touching the Moon's face. The moon will be very close to the horizon, so make sure you have a free line of sight to Southwest — we recommend finding a spot up high. At 5:17 a.m., the eclipse will reach its greatest magnitude while the entire Moon is still above the horizon in Connecticut.

The Old Farmer's Almanac says only the April and the upcoming May full moon qualify under its strict supermoon definition: "A supermoon is the single closest new moon and full moon of the year. By this definition, there can be only two supermoons each year (a full moon supermoon and new moon supermoon)."
So moon gazers, set your alarm and let us know if you were able to catch a glimpse of this very special lunar experience.
