Here are the top three stories today in Essex-Chester-Deep River:

1. Looking to add a shaggy ball of four-legged love and affection to your family and give back to the Essex-Chester-Deep River community at the same time? 2. The list is out! Twenty Nutmeg State individuals will be honored at one of Connecticut's most prestigious sports awards dinners in October. The Connecticut Sports Media Alliance (CSMA) has announced the full slate of award recipients, which will be honored at the 80th Gold Key Dinner. Check out the list to see if anyone you know is on it! (Patch)
3. According to a press release, Governor Ned Lamont has announced that he has signed into law Public Act 22-115, which updates Connecticut’s criminal justice statutes to enable law enforcement and the courts to provide swifter, more effective responses to youth charged with repeated motor vehicle theft and other crimes. In part, the new law will: require that youth who are arrested but not detained to be brought before the court within five business days, increase from six to eight hours the amount of time a youth can be held if police area awaiting a judicial ruling on a detention order or are trying to locate a parent or guardian, grant municipal police officers investigating a juvenile access to electronic records containing statewide pending charges and 90 days of prior arrest records and allow courts to formally order that a youth be assessed for services.
