Help Keep The Bees Happy And Plant Spring Flowers Now
Planting the bulbs of early blooming spring flowers is helpful for hungry bees.
CHESTER, CT — Environmental tip from the Chester Conservation Commission:
It’s spring bulb planting time in Chester!
You can plant bulbs well into the fall until the ground freezes. It helps to put some compost or mulch over the plantings to keep the ground warm for longer. Bees especially appreciate the bulbs which bloom first because after a long winter, they are hungry and there is not much else for them to eat early. So among the daffodils and tulips be sure to plant lots of early-blooming bulbs like crocuses, anemones, muscari and anything else which blooms early to make the bees happy.
