Hydrilla is among the most troublesome invasive aquatic plant currently growing in the Connecticut River.

CHESTER, CT — A Public Infomation Session will be held on Thursday, June 24, at 7:00 p.m.at the Chester Meeting House about the threat from invasive Hydrilla.

According to a recent Facebook post on the town of Chester's page, "Chester is faced with the management of our land and waterways which have been invaded by new species of non-native plants, many of which choke out other vegetation or threaten to change our ability to utilize our beautiful natural surroundings. Hydrilla is among the most troublesome invasive aquatic plant currently growing in the Connecticut River. Hydrilla crowds out native vegetation, harms fisheries, sickens waterfowl, impedes navigation, and threatens recreational use of our waterways. Managing infestations of hydrilla are challenging – and expensive! Please come hear Greg Bugbee speak about hydrilla in the Connecticut River and its potential to affect Cedar Lake and our local watershed. Greg is an associate scientist at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station and is the principal investigator in the Invasive Aquatic Plant Program. Hope to see you there!"
