  1. Join the Deep River Parks and Recreation Department this Thursday, Aug. 3 for the band, "All Funk'd Up" at Plattwood Park as part of the Sounds of Summer, summer concert series. Food will be provided by Deep River Pizza and Deep River Ice. The concert is set to start at 6 :30 p.m. and will play until 8 p.m. (Deep River Parks & Rec via Facebook)
  2. The Town of Essex has put out a Public Notice in regard to the Connecticut River Hydrilla Research Project. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District and the Lower Connecticut River Valley Council of Governments, along with the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station will be doing research to understand and control the invasive aquatic plant hydrilla that is spreading throughout the lower Connecticut River and its tributaries. According to the Town of Essex webpage, "There is a plan to treat a subset of the seven identified sites during the summer of 2024. Ahead of this work, Rhodamine WT (RWT) tracer dye will be put into four sites to better understand their water exchange dynamics thus informing the development of individual herbicide treatment plans for control of the hydrilla at each site."   3. If you have to travel over the East Haddam bridge this week, be aware of closings. According to HK Now.com, "The Connecticut Department of Transportation advises the following construction activities on the Swing Bridge between Haddam and East Haddam for the upcoming week of July 31. In addition to this week’s current 63-hour closure, which runs until Wednesday at 11 a.m., there will be additional overnight bridge closures on Aug. 2 and 3, as follows: Wednesday night Aug. 2 into Thursday morning – 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Thursday night Aug. 3 into Friday morning – 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. The schedule for bridge openings for tall marine vessels is as follows: Monday through Thursday at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m." (HK-Now.com)
