Here are the top three stories today in Essex-Chester-Deep River:
- Because the value of used cars was inflated at the time of the town of Essex 2021 Grand List, the Board of Selectmen and the Board of Finance have elected to adopt a separate lower mill rate of 19.50 for the 2021 motor vehicle grand list. The tax bills received for cars in July will reflect this separate lower mill rate. (Town of Essex)
- It's not too early to start planning for this year's Essex Lion's Club 38th Annual Lobster Bake on Saturday, August 6 from 2:30 to 7 p.m. at the Town Park on Main Street. Tickets are $50 each. Tickets are available at Essex Hardware, Bob's Centerbrook Package Store, Bogaert Construction and Essex Detailing. Music will be provided by String of Pearls. Hope to see you there. - There’s interesting news about Connecticut's housing market and how it compares to others throughout the country. Reportedly, the state's strong housing market could be heading toward a decline, according to a new report from real estate data curator ATTOM. Interest rates on 30-year mortgages have climbed to 6 percent, worsening affordability for prospective homebuyers and home sales have declined every month in 2022. Home-price appreciation continues to show signs of retreating rapidly, according to the report. (Patch)
