Thursdays on the Dock: USCG Jazz Nonet Band, July 15 @ 5:30- 7:30 p.m.

(Karena Garrity)

ESSEX, CT β€” (Press Release) Thursdays on the Dock has been a shoreline staple since 2009. Twelve years in and the lawn of the Connecticut River Museum is still the destination for waterfront music. Bring a chair or blanket, and watch the sun go down over the river while enjoying the USCG Jazz Nonet Band.

The United States Coast Guard Jazz Band was organized in 1970 to perform classic jazz, blues, and rags with a β€œNew Orleans” flavor. The Dixieland Jazz Band has entertained audiences across America, in the former Soviet Union, England, Japan, and Taiwan. Notable venues include Preservation Hall in New Orleans, Times Square in New York City, the Blue Note Club in Taipei (Taiwan), the Embarcadero in San Francisco, the John F. Kennedy Center Millennium Stage in Washington, D.C., and Mardi Gras in New Orleans. The Band appeared at prestigious Traditional Jazz Festivals in Sacramento, California; Sun Valley, Idaho; and Washington, DC. The six-member group has also performed on numerous radio and television broadcasts across the nation, including CBS News This Morning and Fox and Friends.
