Here are the top three stories today in Essex-Chester-Deep River:
- The Essex Fire Engine Co. No. 1 has refurbished the upstairs of its Ivoryton station to display and store its historical items. Historians Douglas Senn and Scott Hofmann, in addition to other members, have been hard at work preserving and sorting through the many items, articles, pictures and equipment it has. This June, the Department is turning 190 years old. EFD is the second oldest continuously running all-volunteer department in Connecticut, as well as being one of the oldest in the country. The Ivoryton firehouse was built in the 1940s to reduce response times to the west end of Essex. The main station stood on Prospect Street until 1999. It will be holding an open house once the project is completed this fall. Stay tuned for more information! (Essex Fire Engine Co. #1 via Facebook)

- The Norma Terris Theater in Chester will be open for business for the first time since December of 2019. It will be reverting to its old practice of doing full productions of musicals-in-progress, complete with sets, costumes, props, lighting and sound design. The first show will be, “Here You Come Again,” playing July 26 through August 27. The musical is based on songs made famous by Dolly Parton. The second show will be “Private Jones.” It will run from October 13 through November 5. Hope to see you at the theatre! (courant.com)
