ESSEX, CT — The Sustainable Essex Committee continues to focus on projects and deliver results that focus on key sustainability issues facing the Lower CT River Value region.

In a recent townwide email, the Committee explained, "We are achieving these results through collaboration with the Essex Land Trust, Connecticut River Museum, the Essex Garden Club, the Connecticut River Conservancy and other organizations. We have benefited from the wonderful support of our First Selectman, Norm Needleman, and the wonderful Town of Essex staff! With the support of our community, we have all achieved some great results! These include:

  • Collecting over 3,830 pounds of food scraps – which has resulted in a reduction of 2,145 lbs. of CO2 Greenhouse gases from our atmosphere
  • With our EV Charging stations, eliminating over 870 metric tons of CO2 from our atmosphere through more than 361 individual uses of the charging stations - and attracting more visitors to shop and dine in our villages

More projects and events are planned for the remainder of the year. The SEED series picks back up on Tuesday June 22nd with an event that will be facilitated by Kelsey Wentling of the Connecticut River Conservancy on what we can ALL do to achieve clean water and thriving communities – be on the lookout for registration information! We are currently working on hosting another Repair Café during the Fall where you can bring selected items to be repaired on the spot instead of being discarded – eliminating more trash from landfills. We will also be partnering with the Essex Land Trust, The Connecticut River Museum and the Connecticut River Conservancy on the “Source to Sea” cleanup event to be held on Saturday, September 25th. This will be a major event for our community!
