Non-Permitted Solicitors In Essex
The Essex Resident Trooper's Office and Town of Essex are aware of several non-permitted solicitors going door-to-door in Essex Village.

ESSEX, CT β According to a Facebook post on the Town of Essex page, "the Essex Resident Trooper's Office and Town of Essex are aware of several non-permitted solicitors going door-to-door in Essex Village during the day on Saturday, July 31 and again on the evening of Tuesday, August 3. The solicitors were dressed in black trousers, white dress shirts and black ties (for the males) and are reporting to residents that they are from out of state. The solicitors asked residents for money through magazine or cleaning supply sales or by telling residents that the money would benefit a child in foster care. These products and charitable claims have not been verified, and may be an attempt to use emotion to coax money from residents. A town official advised the group on Saturday that they needed a peddler permit to solicit and to cease immediately until obtaining said permit; however, the group returned to the area again on Tuesday evening.
Residents are reminded that permitted peddlers will be wearing visible identification and should be able to present a copy of their peddler permit, signed by Town officials. For your safety and security, never provide cash, checks, or other forms of payment to people you do not know or trust. Do not open your door to someone you do not know, do not invite them into your home, and never leave your house unattended if you do decide to speak with a stranger outside. Please report suspicious individuals immediately to the Essex Resident Trooper's Office at 860-767-1054."
