  1. Homeward Bound will be holding an adoption event at the Chester Fairgrounds, Sept. 29 through Oct. 1. For more information and to fill out an application form to be eligible to adopt one of the furry pups at the event, click here. (Homeward Bound CT)

You're invited to The Essex Library and the Essex Land Trust's, guided StoryWalk® for children and families at Cross Lots on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 10 a.m. Get outside with other people from the community and enjoy a guided walk-through Cross Lots, while learning how and why leaves change colors in the fall. The book, "Leaf Man," by Lois Ehlert will also be read during the walk. After the StoryWalk®, families will be invited back to the Essex Library to create leaf animals and other leaf creations.   3. Did you know that two people in Connecticut have been infected with mosquito-borne dengue fever this year? Nationwide more than 880 people have been sickened by the disease. According to an article written by Patch staffer Alfred Branch, "The U.S. cases are among 3 million in the Americas. That's more than at any time in the Americas since 1980, according to a study in the journal Nature that said cases have climbed in the past few years as a result of hotter, more humid conditions that allow mosquitoes to thrive. In a news briefing earlier this month, World Health Organization officials called dengue fever a 'canary in the coalmine of the climate crisis.'” (Patch)
