- The keyword out on the water in the Connecticut River is still caution! Although the flood waters are receding there are remaining dangers currently facing boaters, including missing navigational buoys, damaged boat launches, swift currents and floating debris, to name a few. According to NBC Connecticut, "Both the Coast Guard and Department of Energy and Environmental Protection are urging caution from boaters, saying the river is still elevated, debris is still coming downstream and the current in the river is still very strong."(NBC Connecticut)
- Stranded in the middle of the Housatonic River is how a couple spent their Sunday, due to dangerous water conditions. According to the CT Insider, "Connecticut State Police said officers from Troop L responded around 5:20 p.m. Sunday to the area of Bulls Bridge Road in Kent for a water rescue. Paul Copleman, a spokesperson for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, said environmental conservation police responded to the incident. He said a group of four people were tubing in the Housatonic River when two adults from the group, one man and a woman, overturned leaving them stranded on a rock in the middle of the river." The two people were rescued and brought to shore just after 7 p.m. and the woman was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries. (CT Insider)
- Mother nature and her recent torrential downpours are being blamed for more than $21 million in lost revenue from Connecticut farmers. In an effort to help the agricultural sector of the state, Gov. Ned Lamont has reportedly requested an agricultural disaster declaration from the federal government for damage done to farms and crops by the massive flooding this summer. According to The Advocate, "The Connecticut River and other waterways overwhelmed their banks after storms dumped rain around the state. Excessive runoff also contributed to the flooding [and] drowning fields." (The Advocate)
