  1. Reduce, recycle and reuse is the ultimate goal for a better environment for everyone. According to the Town Of Essex Facebook page, "batteries and electronics do not belong in the recycling cart! These can start fires at recycling facilities and in trucks. Bring your batteries and electronics to the Essex Transfer Station. Alkaline and rechargeable batteries can also be recycled at the Town Hall!" (Town of Essex – Government via Facebook)
  2. Mark your calendars now for the fifth annual River Valley Artist tour of studios in Essex, Chester, Deep River and Westbrook, on Oct. 6, 7 and 8. There are 44 artists participating in the event. Hope to see you there! (River Valley Artists via Facebook)
  3. Join CT Draft Horse Rescue for the 9th Annual Driving for Drafts fundraising event, which is set for Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Portland Golf Course. According to Patch, "There will be a shotgun start at 1 p.m., with check-in beginning at 12 p.m. Enjoy a grilled lunch and a buffet dinner along with raffles and prizes. The cost is $150 per person.
