2 Shot, Killed In East Granby, Police Investigating: Report

The identities of the two people shot and killed have been released.

EAST GRANBY, CT — Two people were shot and killed in East Granby Sunday evening, state police said.

Thomas Jacius, 49, and Doreen Jacius, 48, were identified by state police as the two people who were shot and killed at about 5:48 p.m. Sunday. Doreen is the town's library director.

Police received 911 calls of shots fired in the area of 50 Wynding Hills Road, and at 5:54 p.m. troopers and East Granby Officers arrived and found the two victims with gunshot wounds.

EMS arrived and pronounced both dead, police said. There is no threat to the public, police added. Members of the Central District Major Crime Squad responded and are investigating the case; it remains an open and active investigation.

"The East Granby Public Library staff and Board of Directors are shocked and devastated by the sudden loss of our Director, Doreen Jacius," the library staff posted on Facebook. "She was beloved by us and the community. We grieve with the town. More details regarding the Library’s reopening will be forthcoming in the next few days."

A neighbor told WFSB 3 TV that “I did hear a gunshot or two. I was on the back deck grilling and I heard a gunshot. Didn’t think anything of it, just figured it was at the gun range."
