Police have released the cause of an untimely death in Granby.

GRANBY, CT — An untimely death that prompted a heavy police presence in Granby Sunday night turned out to be a drug overdose, police said.

That was the preliminary assessment in a news release issued early Monday afternoon.

According to police, at 3:51 a.m. Sunday, they received a report of an untimely death on the 100 block of Bushy Hill Road. Officers and EMS crews responded and pronounced Benjamin Lanser, 33, dead at the scene, according t0 a news release.

Due to the "complexity of the scene," the Connecticut State Police Major Crime Unit, was called to the home. After an investigation, it was determined that there was no threat or safety concerns to the community.
