East Granby Apartment Fire Causes No Injuries But Severely Damages Unit
The late-night fire at East Granby's Turkey Hills apartments ruined one residence at the complex but didn't injure the occupant, residents in neighboring units or emergency responders.
A structure fire at the Turkey Hills apartments in East Granby Monday night rendered one unit uninhabitable but resulted in no injuries to the inhabitant, residents of surrounding apartments or emergency response crews.
East Granby Volunteer Fire Department Chief Don Zessin said that by the time his personnel arrived at the scene, the second story bedroom of the apartment was fully involved, but the East Granby Fire Department mounted an aggressive attack and stopped the fire from spreading throughout the multi-unit apartment building.
“There were no injuries,” Zessin said. “Everybody got out.”

The fire occurred in building 5 of the multi-building complex, which was without power Monday night, located on Route 20 near the Granby border. There were multiple response vehicles and personnel, including fire, police and ambulance, on the scene. The fire was first reported to Granby-East Granby Patch around 9:45 p.m.
Zessin didn’t speculate about the cause of the fire, noting that his department handles putting out the fires but not determining their causes. That part of the process is handled by the town's fire marshal.
