General Assembly Decrees State Polka, Second State Song, Other Important Stuff
And you thought your legislators didn't do anything.

Connecticut's General Assembly got a lot of important things done this session: a budget, the nation's toughest gun laws, dog breeds cannot be discriminated against.
But hidden among all that high-level legislation were some other, equally impressive bills that passed.
Thanks to the Connecticut Mirror for pointing it all out:
- The 'ballroom polka' is the official state polka.
- The second official state song (behind 'Yankee Doodle Dandy') is "Beautiful Connecticut Waltz," written by Newington-based country singer-songwriter Joseph Leggo in 1949.
- March is Irish-American Month
- October is Italian-American month
- November is Native American Month
- June 24 is French Canadian-American Day
