Safe Neighborhoods For Halloween Trick-Or-Treating In Granby And East Granby

• Granby Farms Road in Granby.

• From Kate Sheely, Granby: In and around much of Route 20 in West Granby, especially near the intersection of Route 20 and Route 219 — but be careful to avoid using Route 20 itself as a walking path, especially in the dark.

• From Lisa Konior Roddy, Granby: "The Spring Glen/Poets Corner section has power and we'd love to see your kids! Spring Glen, Glen Road, Byron Drive and Shelly Drive all make a big circle, so it's easy to navigate with the kids."

• From Kelli Munday Chasse, Granby: "Sunny Heights has power. Parts of Sakrison are still out. Roads are clear. :) Happy Halloween!"

• From Lisa Tabor Fleisher, Granby: "Everything is normal here in the Poet's Corner area. Last year our neighborhood was a disaster zone with no power for 10 days and lines and trees down everywhere, but this time we dodged a bullet. It would be nice to see trick or treaters again at Buttles Road and Canton Road.

• From Christine Peplow Briggs, Granby: "Sawmill Road, Fern Hollow Drive, Pond Lane and Ridge Road are all okay and clear!"

With the dangerous conditions created of Hurricane Sandy itself past and repair and clean up work well underway, trick-or-treating isn't being officially restricted in Granby and East Granby on Halloween afternoon or evening, although town officials have offered a number of common sense tips listed below.

Officials in both towns are asking parents to follow some safety guidelines for trick-or-treating:

• Don't let children out in neighborhoods without power after dark (although afternoon trick-or-treating in daylight conditions in such areas is OK as long as they are clear of debris and hazards).

• be careful in general of debris and downed limbs and trees, even in neighborhoods with power.

• Most importantly, be extremely vigilant of any downed wires and do not attempt to cross them, even in automobiles — although none have recently been reported and downed wires have been repaired to the best of our knowledge here at Granby-East Granby Patch, there is always a possibility a few have been missed or may even detach during the day Wednesday.

Share info about your neighborhood — Is the power on or off? Are the roads in good shape?
