EAST GRANBY, CT — A line of powerful thunderstorms swept through Hartford County Friday afternoon, causing considerable damage to homes, trees and power lines.

Around 2:30 p.m., the storm caused a tree to fall onto a house on Route 189, known locally as Hartford Avenue. A man was inside the house at the time, but escaped without injury.

The man's mother has established a GoFundMe account to help him begin to rebuild his home. It may be found here. Nearly $3,700 has been raised as of Monday night.

On the GoFundMe page it states: "I'm Frances Grosse. I'm starting a gofundme page for my son Nicholas Grosse who lost everything he owned including his house, car, valuables, family mementos, clothes, documents and so much more. A bad storm or thunder burst hit his house while he was inside. He narrowly escaped with his life. I'm hoping this fundraising gets him on his feet as this will be a long road."
