The Priciest Item at Hidden Treasure May Have a Jesse James Connection
A new owner took over the consignment store in East Granby in October.
At $1,600, the barber chair in Hidden Treasure Consignments is by far the most expensive item in the shop.
Manager Patty Logan says the chair has a story behind it.
"It was said that Jesse James sat in it and was shot," though not fatally, Logan said.
Though the store can't document the story, the barber chair still has a wonderful pedigree and look to it.
Logan, who manages the store for owner Frank Grillo, said every item inside has a story behind it.
"I try to research everything that comes in here," she said. "It's heartbreaking. There are so many sad stories."
Consigners, who get 50 percent of the sale price, usually need to get rid of items when a loved one has died, Logan said, or when they are trying to clear out a home and find that their younger relatives don't want an antique or used item.
How does Logan choose the items?
"It's whatever I think might be different," she said. "Or everyday items that people are looking for."
