Decision Reversed on Greenwich HS Graduation Gowns

After a student petition on change.org, the school headmaster drops plan for gender-neutral gowns.

GREENWICH, CT - A student petition drive has prompted Greenwich High School Headmaster Chris Winters to reverse a decision that would have had seniors wear a gender-neutral gowns at their graduation.

On Monday, school administrators announced that the school would discontinue the practice of boys wearing red gowns and girls wearing white gowns, according to Greenwich Time.

Senior Allie Moore who organized the petition drive on change.org, a drive that garnered 472 signatures.

On Thursday, Winters announced that seniors will now have the choice of wearing either a red or white gown with opposite colored stripes on the sleeves. He also apologized for not consulting with students before deciding on the original change.

Moore posted a message Thursday on change.org:

“THANK YOU SO MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO SIGNED THE PETITION. Dr. Winters just emailed the senior class and parents stating that both red and white gowns are back, for students to choose what color they wear at graduation. Thank you all for successfully making this change.”
