Drugs, Knives, Booze Found in Speeding Teen's Car: Greenwich PD

The 18-year-old suspect also is accused of trying to eat the suspected pot police found inside the car.

An 18-year-old driver is facing a plethora of charges ranging from driving while intoxicated and drug possession to having weapons in a motor vehicle after he was caught allegedly driving 71 mph on West Putnam Avenue.

Greenwich Police were conducting speed enforcement on West Putnam about 10:40 p.m. on Dec. 5 when radar indicated a passing motorist was driving at 71 mph in the 30 mph speed zone, according to a police report.

When officers stopped the driver of the Honda Accord near Josephine Evaristo Avenue, they could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the car and on the driver, according to the report. Police said they found a bag containing a green leafy substance and a glass smoking bowl when they searched the driver.

According to the police report, “While conducting a search of the Honda, the operator grabbed the previously discovered items and attempted to destroy them by breaking the smoking bowl on the roadway and eating a portion of the leafy substance.”

Officers found drug paraphernalia and utility knives “secreted within the doors and accessible on the floor,” according to the report. They also found a “partially full bottle of alcohol” beneath the passenger seat.

Police arrested Carlos Molina, of 38 Gerry St., Greenwich, with four counts of weapons in a motor vehicle, five counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and single counts of driving under the influence, traveling more than 60 mph on roadway, second-degree hindering prosecution, criminal attempt to tamper with evidence, possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana and possession of alcohol by a minor.

Molina was unable to post a $2,500 bond and scheduled to appear Dec. 14 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
