Greenwich Beats Staples In Class LL Football Quarterfinals
The rivals matched up for the second straight week on Wednesday in the CIAC Class LL quarterfinals.
GREENWICH, CT — Coming off a 33-19 win over Staples on Thanksgiving, the Greenwich High School Cardinals routed the Wreckers 41-7 in Wednesday's CIAC Class LL quarterfinals from Cardinal Stadium.
The Cardinals were powered by two rushing touchdowns from Jack Kelly which gave Greenwich a 14-7 lead at halftime, according to GameTimeCT.
The second half was dominated by Greenwich, with two rushing touchdowns from Hector Lopez and another rushing touchdown from Phil Tarrantino who also caught a touchdown pass from Michael Gordon.

Greenwich came into the game as the No. 3 seed with an 8-2 record, and will now advance to the Class LL semifinals for the fourth straight year.
The semifinal game is set for 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, at Rafferty Stadium against No. 2 seed Fairfield Prep - a team the Cardinals defeated on Sept. 12 at home by a score of 31-14.
