Greenwich Cheerleaders Honored By Local Lawmakers After Impressive Season
The cheerleading team recently capped off an unprecedented "triple crown" season.

GREENWICH, CT — State Sen. Ryan Fazio (R-36) and state Rep. Tina Courpas (R-149) on Monay honored the Greenwich High School varsity cheerleading team for theirimpressive achievements this past season.
With the Cardinals' triumph at the New England Interscholastic Spirit Championship in March, the team capped off an unprecedented "triple crown" season in which the squad also won the FCIAC Class LL, state and regional titles.
"This Greenwich High School Cheer Team defines excellence," Fazio said, according to a news release. "Their remarkable achievements reflect not only talent and athleticism but also perseverance and hard work. Congratulations to them on this historic achievement of winning FCIAC, CIAC, and the New England Championships. They have made all of Greenwich proud and set a high standard for the many young athletes that will follow them!"

"This is the first time any CT team has won the New England Championships. Thank you to the team for all your hard work and to the parents and coaches who support them for bringing this honor home for the state," Courpas added.
The lawmakers also recognized head coach Julia Vyskocil, along with assistant coaches Nicolette Capalbo, Sidney Ambrogio, and Katherine Ernye.

"I am so proud of this incredible team—they set out to shock the state, and they did just that, making history as the first CT high school to win the D1 New England Regionals title!" Vyskocil said, according to a news release. "Their energy, passion, and hard work—both on the mat and in the community—have truly paid off. Thank you so much, Senator Fazio and Representative Courpas for celebrating these amazing athletes with us—we’re beyond excited to have made Greenwich and the entire state of Connecticut proud!"
In a news release, GHS Athletic Director Peter Georgiou added, "Thank you, Senator Fazio, for taking the time to recognize our cheerleaders. I have seen how hard this team has worked all year, and their hard work and resiliency have paid off. This was a historic season, and to have you recognize them in front of their peers and family put an exclamation point on a landmark season. Thank you again."
