Greenwich Expands Photo Speed Enforcement Program: See Where
Police on Monday announced the activation of photo speed cameras at a new school zone.
GREENWICH, CT — Following the rollout of a photo speed enforcement program at several school zones in October and November, Greenwich police on Monday announced further expansion to include Greenwich High School on Hillside Road.
As with the previous speed camera locations in town, there will be a warning period at GHS which begins Dec. 8.
Police previously listed GHS in the November update that also included Central Middle School (Indian Rock Lane), Glenville School (Riversville Road) and Parkway School (Lower Cross Road). The live citation period for those locations begins Dec. 17.

The warning period for GHS will remain in effect for 30 days. Citations for those who violate the GHS school zone speed limit will be issued beginning Jan. 8, 2026.
Fines will be mailed to the address of the registered owner’s address. Police said these citations will not carry points on licenses or impact insurance, "but they are to be taken seriously as each infraction is exponentially endangering the lives of students in and near the school zone."

According to police, speed studies conducted at GHS in 2024 showed "a significant problem" with speeding in the area, with 6,342 violations over a five-day period - nearly 10 percent of all vehicles (63,462) passing through the GHS school zone during the study.
Of the 6,342 speeding vehicles, 4,317 were speeding between 11-14 mph over the enforceable speed limit, police noted, with another 1,754 vehicles were clocked between 15-20 mph over the enforceable speed limit. An additional 271 speeding vehicles exceeded 21 mph or more over the limit.
Speed cameras were first installed in mid-October at North Street School, Eagle Hill School (Glenville Road), Brunswick Lower School (King Street), Greenwich Academy (North Maple Avenue), and Central Middle School (Orchard Street).
